Archive for January 2008
Well, so far, at Artists UK we have been pleased with 2008. Not only have we had lots of orders from all you wonderful people visiting our sites but we’ve also been finding lots more rare items that we thought long since gone forever. Since we are know for having such unavailable collectibles these little finds boosts our feeling of raison d’etre into the stratosphere
But don’t worry we always come down eventually from the initial joy and surprise to actually getting the stuff onto the website so that you lovely people (see above) can come along and snaffle it up. We always hope these items go to good homes, rather like the RSPCA shelters finding homes for cute little poozikats and doggies. If you’re not sure whether you would be a good home then that’s easily sorted as there are several fact sheets on this website for looking after prints and posters. Anyway, enough rambling as there is much to do on www.artistsuk.co.uk and DotNet may not be seeing so much action for a week or so though we’ll always do our best to reply to comments left here.

We have a massive long list of unsolicited customer testimonials on our ecommerce website at www.artistsuk.co.uk but it isn’t that often we get to see our customers in these days of impersonal Internet ordering. One of our customers was so impressed with the Christmas gift he bought from us for his wife and how happy she was with it he emailed us with a photo of her with the framed print and thanked us for being there to provide it…..

“The print arrived in great shape and has already been framed. I attached a picture of my wife with her print. My wife really loved it and I wanted to thank you for your help in acquiring it. My wife said Alan Lee was a big inspiration for her in her art career. The only problem now is that she can’t decide what room of the house to put it in. She wants to be able to look at it all the time and doesn’t know what room is best. It will probably end up in her Art Studio so that she can look at it while she paints.”
It is nice to be appreciated! Thanks! ![]()
Britain and other European countries are going to build more nuclear power stations to combat climate change and growing world power shortages as the oil starts to run out. If this wasn’t such a serious issue we could laugh at the sheer absurdity of this idea. As it is, we have to think how it is that such selfish short-sighted people got to be in such positions of power where they can drive us all forwards into merry oblivion!
If you have no idea what I’m talking about then take a look at Greenpeace here
If you don’t know about the peaking of oil supplies a few years back and the real dangers ahead then take a look at this.
There is also Tim Flannery’s book The Weather Makers. You can read about that one here.
Not easy reading but perhaps the most essential reading of all before the idiot politicians and bigwigs turn us all into lemmings is George Monbiot’s book Heat. There is an in-depth review of it here.
With regards to building more nuclear power plants and other non-sustainable resource projects I have to say that this form of art is one that Artists UK cannot condone. Art is about creativity and creating projects that use up non-replaceable resources and creating more radiocative waste really doesn’t fit the bill.
All viable plans to transport the politicians and businessmen promoting these crazy ideas to Mars where they can happily nuke themselves silly will be seriously considered. There must be such viable plans as it is a far more sensible proposal than the plans they are putting in place here. Even the large carbon footprint of sending them there is tiny compared to the future they have in store for us.
