A bit more snazzy !

Over the years at Artists UK we have improved our ecommerce software for www.artistsuk.co.uk several times to give our customers a better shopping experience.  We’ve made the site work faster, smoother and made it more logically organised.  It has a powerful SEARCH facility and there are buttons all over the place allowing customers to contact us by email if they have questions.  We then built up this information site with a brand new logo designed by the excellent team at Farbweiss Media in Germany who also designed the website for us.  Somehow along the way we never got round to updating the original Artists UK logo and we realised for some time how static and dated it was looking, especially compared to the Artists UK DotNet logo so we’ve finally gopt round to vamping it up into a more dynamic modern version.  We hope you like it.  You can see it here.

With the increase in car adverts on TV and cinema in recent years almost every other ad is for some new flash car (although you’d be hard pressed sometimes to recognise that the bizarre video you are faced with is advertising anything!).  Whilst the car adverts are increasing, the petrol supply needed to run them is declining and if it wasn’t for the growing alternative fuels market then we could have looked forward to a time when all the advertising is for cars at the same time as the oil runs out leaving us with nothing to drive them on, hence no cars, hence no adverts at all!  Then there’d really be nothing on TV worth watching :-)

I’m sure you’ve noticed how bizarre the meters are for installing software, copying, downloading etc.  The copying is going to take 3 days 4 hours and 27 minutes, then 2 mins later it will take 3 hours 32 mins, then 27 mins and finally it’s all over quicker than you can make a cup of coffee.  Then there are those downloads where there is one minute left to go which somehow ends up taking far longer than making a cup of coffee.  Even  the last ten seconds seems to stretch out towards infinity.  Since software like this is designed by software designers and/or programmers we can only assume that they do it according to their own experience of time, which leaves us with some strange observations about how they must live.  The software designer with two minutes to catch the bus surely must inevitably arrive an hour after it has gone.  Another programmer is writing his Christmas list only to find that by the time he’s finished it is Boxing Day.  They must all miss their birthdays one way or another and have absolutely no idea how old they actually are.  Clearly, they never manage to get married unless it is to another designer or programmer with the same bizarre time perception as their own and even then it must be hit and miss whether they make it to the church or registry office at the right time and don’t manage to end up at the Reception before the wedding.   Some of them, of course, may have the good fortune of stretching the last moments of their lives off into infinity with “just a few seconds left …” whilst others never knew what hit them as their retirement flashed past reducing from 25 years 6 weeks 3 days and 27 minutes to 1 day 3 hours and 4 mins before the first year of their retirement is over!  So; next time you are faced with a digital countdown that is apparently defying all known laws of physics spare a thought for these poor miserable people in their strange universe where the worst TV advert can last all evening and lovemaking is reduced to a fraction of a second instead of the usual six years three weeks two days four hours 28 minutes and 33 seconds :-)

We are coming up to Christmas yet again!  As usual Artists UK will have a dispatch on each of the last posting dates for Christmas 2008 so as long as an order is in before the last posting date and the items are in stock it should go out by the last posting date with plenty of time to get there for Christmas.  You can always email us if you want to check if it will reach you by Christmas although you can normally assume that if you can order it then it is in stock and if there were any unusual problem you can be sure we would email you immediately.  The last posting dates for Christmas 2008 are as follows:

One of our customers has supplied us with some info on a wonderful forum for art lovers you might like to join.  Here are the details:-

The forum I visit on a daily basis is on Spacecast.com. It is a place where
we exchange ideas and opinions in a friendly manner, even if more often than
not, we tease each other in full respect of each others opinions.

We talk about Science-Fiction, Fantasy, Horror and Adventures. We talk about
old and new series, movies and books.

We talk about new discoveries in science and we also have started recently
threads on artists’ artworks with respect of their copyrights and tittles.

When you visit the forum, you will find that they (the Spacemonkeys) try to
make it easy to find all the different subjects by categorising them.

We all make sure every new comers are welcome and they can add to the fun we
have there. I, myself, been there for some years now and I still enjoy the
simplicity of the place.

So, I invite everyone to register with your name or username. It is as you
wish. ;))

Kindly,

Marc
