“OMG it’s just like Christmas!” groaned one of our packers as the 20th anniversary sale got into full swing and even some old customers we haven’t heard from for some time turned up to grab some of the rare items that we, in our usual fit of madness, included in the sale.  We also managed to list one item based on an old retail price giving the customer rather more off than had been planned so he got a really good bargain, not that he knows it unless he compared the retail price on his order confirmation with the current section for that artist.

Anyway, it was fun to celebrate the 20th Birthday of Artists UK and I expect the next twenty years will pass just as rapidly and as long as there are walls to hang pictures on, bodies to wear t-shirts, art books to read … you get the idea … we’ll be here, even if those walls are on spaceships, Mars or in some far-flung galaxy … Artists Andromeda, now there’s an idea ….. 🙂

Happy Birthday to us !!!

Yes, that’s right, Artists UK started trading on 2nd May 1994 and has now ceased to be a teenager.

It seems like some kind of ancient history lesson on the one hand and hard to believe it has been that long on the other hand and since I have three hands it also seems to have passed very quickly on that other third hand.  Maybe I’ll have a fourth hand by the time I’ve finished writing this.

Although our earliest trading place was at a craft market we were sending prints and posters all over the world very early on due to our various trade contacts etc all over the world.  It was a slow and kind of organic growth where our trade contacts knew artists and our artists put us in touch with trade contacts etc.  I even had a call from Terry Pratchett once putting me in touch with a company in Australia.  Unfortunately, I was in bed with flu on the redirected call so I doubt he thought I was the most ‘get up and go’ person he’d ever spoken to since at the time all my ‘get up and go’ had got up and gone.  Meeting great artists like Alan Lee and Brian froud led to publishing a number of fine-art limited editions that we are still very proud of and some of these are in the sale.

If you are quick enough you can grab some of the bargains going in our 20th Anniversary sale that is on until 5pm Thursday 8th May 2014.

We’ve included many popular artists like Alan Lee, Roger Dean, MC Escher, Bruce Pennington, Chris Achilleos, Brian Froud, Josh Kirby (Discworld), Michael Whelan and Peter Pracownik just to mention a few and the prices are up to 60% off the usual prices and given that many of these items are totally unavailable elsewhere that means a real bargain.

You can treat yourself or stock up early for someone’s special anniversary, birthday or even Christmas if you are organised enough to remember you’ve got it when the time comes.  Not sure I’d manage that but you’re probably cleverer than wot I am.  Just click on the banner button above and you’ll be whisked off to the cornucopia of Artists UK’s 20th Anniversary sale … as long as you do it soon enough that is.

Roger Dean original goes up for auction!

Roger Dean Original YesShows Artwork

This is the original artwork for the Yes album “YesShows” by the iconic and highly sought after artist Roger Dean. This piece was commissioned from Roger Dean by prog-rock band Yes in 1980. This stunning signed original acrylic Roger Dean painting is on board with collage measuring 26 1/2 inches by 17 1/2 inches and comes complete with certificate issued by the San Francisco Art Exchange LLC.  Confirmed valuation of $260.000 from the Art Exchange (£163.000 approx) issued in December 2009 from the same source, is included in the sale. The valuation for this Roger Dean painting has substantially risen over the past three years, and looks to continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Roger Dean’s unique artwork featured on 23 album covers for Yes alone. Along with other bands including Atomic Rooster, Uriah Heep and even The London Philharmonic Orchestra his album artwork has sold 60 million copies worldwide. For a Roger Dean painting like this to come to auction at all is extremely rare.
This Roger Dean original will appeal both to Yes collectors and art enthusiasts alike, both of whom will appreciate the worth of a Roger Dean original painting. One or two items have already sold out in the Summer Sale but there are still many more fabulous bargains on popular items available so if you haven’t already had a look the direct link to the Artists UK Summer Sale is here.
