We always hope that our offers will be well-received by our customers but this one kind of went over the top and we’re working away as if it were few weeks to go until Christmas right now. Some of our old customers have got wise to how generous we often are with our mystery gifts and the promise of gifts to match the amount spent has meant a fair few customers ordering hundreds of pounds of collectible prints or folios to get a massive number of mystery freebies of prints, posters etc. Others who perhaps weren’t after anything right now have bought something small just to see what they get … after all, surprises are always nice aren’t they? Then there are stacks of others inbetween these extremes and the wonderful responses we’ve had from the first customers to receive their goodies has made it all worthwhile. If you get a load of mystery gifts then there’s bound to be something you like and then the others can be used as gifts for other people who are into those subjects or artists. That’s what one high-spend customer told us.

Moving hosting can be quite a nightmare especially with an art business and masses of images of all our prints and posters not to mention the software behind it all but finally it has all been done and the new slideshow in the sidebar is a fabulous improvement on the static ads we had there before. We hope you like it and if you do, or if you don’t, click the comments and tell us so.

The annual Wadfest auction

As has been the case for the last ten years or so Artists UK donated products to the Wadfest festival this year for their annual charity auction.  The Wadfest weekend went well and there was even good weather on the Saturday.  The Wadfest auction raised £1,070 for Cancer and Animal Rescue charities, of which the Artists UK donation accounted for £264.

John Zehentner - Heaven is Waiting
John Zehentner – Heaven is Waiting

If you are planning on being close to Southport in Merseyside, UK, say, something like within a thousand miles then make sure you pop in to see the latest show by the Southport art group The Waterfront Arts Project.  The original of this amazing piece of art by John Zehentner shown above is more impressive than any little jpeg image can do justice to as is a great deal of the other art on show from other great artists like Joan Walmsley with her large 3D works using fabrics or metalworker Rob Art with his incredible dragon that so impressed the group they had to give it a room on its own!  The WAP has been running for many years showcasing a diverse range of local talent that is on a par with much of what you’d find elsewhere in major galleries.  This is not a gallery of hobbiest watercolour doodles, this is cutting edge stuff in a variety of postmodern styles ranging from highly emotionally charged humanistic work to overt political statements regarding our modern world and the rife inequalities that still exist in our supposedly civilised environment.  Much of the work is challenging and often far deeper than the first deceptive appearances of something ordinary.  You might not like everything but I doubt you will find it boring.  And those you don’t like have probably touched a nerve and later on you might find yourself thinking back to those art pieces and learning something about yourself and the world you live in.  This is a non-profit group and nothing is sold at the exhibitions.  The exhibition relies on the support of local businesspeople and councillors and has grown in popularity purely by word of mouth.  Once you’ve been you’ll probably be enthusing to all your friends about this sparkling gem of an art exhibition in the north-west of England.  If you want to know more you can visit their Facebook page here.
